Liam Jegou is set to become the first man to compete for Ireland at the Olympic C1 canoe slalom since Mike Corcoran at Atlanta in 1996. He got his spot in internal qualifications by beating Robert Hendrick, who actually won the quota for Ireland at last year’s World Championships in La Seu d’Urgell.

European Canoe Association and British Canoeing were unfortunately forced to cancel the planned 2020 ECA Canoe Slalom European Championships on the 2012 Olympic Course in Lee Valley due to Covid-19 pandemic. The news comes together with many cancellations of major sporting events scheduled for this spring and early summer.

Canoe Slalom paddlers had the opportunity to test the newly built Olympic course in Tokyo for the first time last year and in October also started at the pre-Olympic test event. Among those who experienced the new venue were the best Czech paddlers, but they were not too happy with the course.

Australian open canoe slalom competition was an excellent opportunity for European paddlers to test their form while on training camp at the 2000 Olympic course in Penrith. One gold, four silver and three bronze medals are a final score of European paddlers in Australia.
