The 2019 ECA Clubs Canoe Polo European Championships was held this weekend in Port of Catania on Sicily. Seventeen teams from ten European countries fought for the European Champion title in men’s category, and twelve teams from eight European countries contested in women’s category. In women’s final SFE – Pol. Can Catania won gold medal, while in men’s final Pro Scogli Chiavari also from Italy celebrated European Champion title.

The Liffey Descent celebrated 60th edition this year and it was a big win for youngsters - Irish kayaker Ronan Foley (19 years) and Danish representative Nikolai Thomsen (18 years) who set the fastest time of the race. More than 472 boats took part in the sporting event. The descent is 32 kilometres long and includes 10 weirs and a portage on the journey from Straffan to the Garda Boat Club in Islandbridge.

After the Canoe Sprint and Paracanoe World Championships in Hungary and the Pre-Olympic test event in Japan, some of the best canoe sprinters travelled to China to take part in the special Super Cup competition which was held in Linyi.

Next year’s Paralympic Games in Tokyo will include for the second time in history also paracanoeing races. The venue is ready to host this major event next year and paracanoeists were ready to test the location already this year within the Ready Set Tokyo test event taking place this September. European competitors did great, especially the medallists of this year’s European Championships.
