Fernando Pimenta Sportsman of the year in Portugal

The year 2017 was a great year for the best Portuguese kayaker Fernando Pimenta. He won the 2017 ECA European Champion title in men’s K1 1000 metres final, he finished second in 5000 metres event of the European Championships in Plovdiv. He was World Champion in the 5000 meters event of the World Championships in Račice, and also picked up silver medal in 1000 metres event of the same championships. At the end of the year Portuguese Olympic Committee named him the best male athlete of the year.

2008 Olympic Champion Tim Brabants MBE has joined the World Class canoe sprint programme as podium technical coach British Canoeing announced on their website. As podium technical coach Tim will provide assistance and expertise to sprint head coach Rene Olsen in the development of the senior men’s and women’s Olympic kayak 200 and 500 metres squads.

Reigning European Champions announce their retirement

French canoe slalom paddlers Pierre Picco and Hugo Biso have announced their retirement from professional sports. “Today we are hanging up the paddle, turning to new personal and professional perspectives. We are retiring with the feeling of a job well done. If we had to summarize the adventure of PicBis, it would be 15 years of career, 12 years on a high level, 14 World medals, 7 European medals, 55 national podiums, more than 6500 kilometres paddled on water, about 250,000 poles crossed,” wrote the 2017 ECA Canoe Slalom C2 European Champions on their Facebook page this Sunday.
