In a historic move for canoeing in Portugal, the newly appointed Portuguese Board of Directors has decided to introduce Kayak Cross to the country, with plans to organise the first-ever National Championships this year. The world’s superpower in Canoe Sprint and Canoe Marathon is now entering a new canoeing discipline.

We are less than six months away from the 2025 ECA Canoe Marathon European Championships which will be held in Ponte de Lima, Portugal, from 2nd to 8th June 2025. The Championships, organised in northern Portugal, will not be only dedicated to senior, U23, and junior paddlers, but will also include master competitions and paracanoe demonstration races.

The Canoe Federation of Ukraine held elections in December and there hasn’t been a change in the leading position. Igor Slivinsky was re-elected to the position of the President of the federation.

The season 2024 brought a lot of excitement and top level competitions across all disciplines. European paddlers once more excelled at all competitions they were taking part in, however, there were some great names missing on the start lines. Among the biggest stars of canoeing that ended their competitive careers and followed canoeing from the sidelines was Emanuel Silva, one of the greatest Portuguese canoe sprinters of all times.
