The first canoe sprint races of the EYOF are done

Young Canoe Sprint athletes from 33 European countries concluded the first competition day of the EYOF which takes place in Győr, Hungary. The first day was dedicated to qualifications and heats in the 500 metres K1M, K1W, C1M, C1W, K2M, K2W, C2 mix and K4 mix events.

The first part of the competition day was qualification which gave the names of the fastest athletes who proceeded to the 500 metres heats that were held in the afternoon.

In those heats only the winner of each race and the best three second placed athletes in men’s K1 advanced to the semi-final which is scheduled for tomorrow and will be followed by finals A and B later in the day. In women’s K1, men’s C1, men’s K2 and women’s K2 the best two boats from each race advanced to the semi-final. In C2 mix the top three boats from each group advanced to the next stage and in K4 mix the best two boats and also top three by time assured themselves a new start tomorrow.

In the 30 races that were held in the afternoon, representatives of Hungary, Russia and Germany produced the fastest times in heats in almost half of the races to secure themselves a place in the semi-final without a problem. Besides previously mentioned teams also athletes from Denmark, Czech Republic, Belarus, Spain, Slovakia, Serbia, Slovenia, Romania, Latvia, Italy and Poland won the heats in their respective events.

The 500 meters semi-finals as well as A and B finals in K1M, K1W, C1M, C1W, K2M, K2W, C2 mix and K4 mix events will be organised tomorrow.
