The ECA Wildwater Canoeing European Championships returns to Italy 2.6.2025

Excitement is building ahead of the 2025 ECA Wildwater Canoeing European Championships. Mezzana will host the continental championships from Wednesday to Saturday, with the official opening ceremony taking place on Tuesday afternoon.


This will be the third time in history that the ECA Wildwater Canoeing European Championships is held in Italy. The first edition on Italian rapids was in 2001 in Valsesia, followed by Valtellina in 2009. This year’s host, Mezzana, has already welcomed a top-level event in the past — it was the venue of the 1993 Wildwater Canoeing World Championships.
 
Athletes from 16 European countries will compete for medals in Val di Sole, including many of the sport’s biggest stars and defending European champions from the 2023 event held in Skopje, North Macedonia.
 
Among the top names to watch at the start line are local favorites Cecilia Panato, Mathilde Serena Rosa, and Giulia Formenton; Slovenians Anze Urankar, Nejc Znidarcic, and Simon Oven; French stars Maxence Barouh, Luca Barone, Laura Fontaine, Manon Hostens, Phenicia Dupras, Charles Ferrion, Nicolas Sauteur, Theo Viens, and Elsa Gaubert; Czech athletes Marie Nemcova, Ondrej Rolenc, Matej Vanek, Matous Beier, and Anna Retkova; as well as Belgian competitors Laurane Sinnesael and Joren Bogaerts — and many more.
 
The official opening ceremony will be held on Tuesday, while the competition kicks off on Wednesday at 9:30 CET with the classic individual races. Thursday will be dedicated to team events, with medals awarded in both classic and sprint. On Friday, racing resumes at 9:30 with the sprint heats. Saturday’s sprint finals will commence at 15:00.
 
The Wildwater Sprint Canoeing races on Friday and Saturday will be available in livestream on the Canoe Europe YouTube channel.

 

Participating nations: Austria, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Czechia, France, Great Britain, Germany, Hungary, Italy, North Macedonia, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain and Switzerland.
