Tacen to host the ECA European Open Canoe Slalom Cup with some strong names on the start line this weekend 20.4.2022

Ljubljana – Tacen has one of the most well-known canoe slalom courses in the world with its trademark drop that is a challenge for everyone, even the most experienced canoe slalom paddlers. On Saturday and Sunday it will host the ECA European Open Canoe Slalom Cup with 150 athletes from 12 countries.


The venue which hosted the 2005 and 2017 European Canoe Slalom Championships and was awarded the organisation of the 2024 ECA Canoe Slalom European Championships will have strong European Open Canoe Slalom Cup this Saturday and Sunday. Athletes expected to start will represent Slovenia, Germany, Austria, Italy, Croatia, Belgium, France, Great Britain, Brazil, Hungary, Kosovo and Algeria.
 
Visitors will be able to see in action the best Slovenian paddlers, including Olympic, World and European Champion Benjamin Savšek, Olympic medallist, World and European Champion Peter Kauzer and former World Champion Eva Terčelj. They will not be the only stars of this sport that will fight the challenging rapids of Sava River.
 
The reigning Olympic and World Champion Ricarda Funk from Germany and her teammate Elena Lilik, reigning European Champion Corinna Kuhnle and former C1 European Champion Viktoria Wolffhardt, Giovanni de Gennaro, Felix Oschmautz, Mario Leitner, Pedro Goncalves, Ana Satila, Raffaello Ivaldi, Roberto Colazingari and Marta Bertoncelli are just some of the names that promise interesting competition weekend in Slovenia.
 
On Saturday the athletes will start in the heats, which will determine who will advance to Sunday’s semifinal. On Sunday we will also follow the final runs. Organisers decided to have extreme slalom race as well. On Saturday time trials are scheduled and on Sunday the final part of the extreme slalom competition will take place.
