Slovak Wildwater paddlers will not attend international events in 2020

Slovak Wildwater paddlers will not attend international events in 2020 9.7.2020

Wildwater section of Slovak Canoeing announced today that the board decided their athletes will not attend international canoe slalom and wildwater canoeing competitions this year. Health of the athletes and coaches is at the moment the top priority.

Richard Galovič, Vice-president of Whitewater Section of Slovak Canoeing, said: “We are very sorry to inform all our athletes, coaches and all members of our canoeing family that with emphasis on health, long-term complex postpandemic training process with the highest goals, Slovak Canoeing has decided to stop 2020 international Canoe Slalom and Wildwater Canoeing Season. With the ongoing threat of COVID-19 across the world it is very difficult for Slovak Canoeing to provide a ‘safe’ environment for athletes, staff and volunteers at competitions. Therefore, exploring all the opportunities for domestic racing later this year if this can be delivered safely and responsibly within government guidelines, Slovak Open will be held as domestic, not international event. Thank you for your understanding and hope to see you soon on the riverbanks all across the world.”

The Slovak Open which was planned to be one of the races in the ECA Open Senior Canoe Slalom European Cup in the season 2020 (5-6 September) has been converted into domestic race, so it will not be an international event and the ECA Open Senior Canoe Slalom European Cup in Bratislava is therefore cancelled.
