Second day of European Championships and second golds for Czech Republic and Slovenia 12.8.2022

On the second competition day of the 2022 ECA Junior and U23 Canoe Slalom European Championships in Ceske Budejovice teams of Slovenia, Czech Republic, Slovakia and Spain celebrated European Champion titles in junior and U23 canoe events.


Czech Republic won second gold medal of this European Championships in the women's U23 canoe team event, where Gabriela Satkova, Eva Rihova and Tereza Kneblova produced the best run on a very tough course setting. They were more than ten seconds faster that team of Germany which won silver medal. Great Britain was third.
 
Slovenia also won the second gold medal of the championships thanks to their U23 men's canoe team. Jus Javornik, Nejc Polencic and Ziga Lin Hocevar were 1.77 seconds faster than trio from Great Britain. Poland won bronze medal. 15-year-old Ziga Lin Hocevar won his second gold medal of the championships after being crowned junior European champion already yesterday in kayak team event.
 
In men's junior canoe team event Slovakia with Jaromir Ivanecky, Samuel Krajci and David Staffen won gold medal. The second place went to two teams. Both Spain and Czech Republic were 3.78 second behind Slovak team, so two sets of silver medals were awarded.
 
In the last team event of this championships Nora Lopez, Leire Goni and Malen Gutierrez from Spain were crowned junior canoe team European Champions. Czech Republic finished second in this event, while bronze medal went to Germany.
 
Before the team events, individual men's and women's junior and U23 canoe heats were on the programme. Favourites advanced to the next stage of the competition. Spain's Miquel Trave set the fastest time in men's U23 canoe heats, finishing the race 0.88 ahead of Lennard Tuscherer from Germany and James Kettle (GBR) was third.
 
In women's C1 U23 event Gabriela Satkova, former Senior European Champion, produced the best time at her home soil. Sophie Ogilvie (GBR) was second and Emanuela Luknarova (SVK) third in the heats.
 
Slovak canoeist Jaromir Ivanecky was the best in men's C1 junior heats. Martin Cornu from France finished the first heats run in second place, while Edward McDonald from Great Britain was third.
 
Klara Kneblova (CZE) was the fastest in junior women's C1 heats. German canoeists Lucie Krech and Paulina Pirro were second and third respectively.
 
On Saturday, U23 and junior semi-final and final in men's and women's kayak are on the programme, as well as extreme slalom time trials.
