Ricardo Machado elected Vice President of the Portuguese Olympic Committee

Ricardo Machado elected Vice President of the Portuguese Olympic Committee 6.4.2025

Ricardo Machado, president of the Portuguese Canoe Federation, was elected Vice President of the Portuguese Olympic Committee. This was not only a special recognition for Ricardo Machado himself, but also for canoeing, one of the most successful sports in Portugal.

Ricardo Machado took over the Portuguese Canoe Federation last autumn, when he succeeded long time president Vitor Felix, the newly elected ECA Board of Directors member. Machado now leads the federation alongside Vice Presidents Joao Botelho and Sergio Ferreira, and has introduced four new members to the Federation’s board — notably, three of them are women, marking the first time in FPC history that such a level of female representation has been achieved. He will lead the Federation in the next 2025-2028 Olympic Cycle.

Now, Ricardo Machado has been also honoured with the position of the Vice President of the Portuguese Olympic Committee. “It was with great honour that I assumed the position of Vice President of the Portuguese Olympic Committee. This ceremony marked the beginning of a new cycle of work in support of sport, athletes, and the Olympic values that unite us. I would like to thank Dr. Fernando Gomes, all my colleagues, and the federations for their trust, and I reaffirm my commitment to contributing to the strengthening of the Olympic Movement and sport in Portugal,” Machado said after being appointed Vice President of the Portuguese Olympic Committee.
