Preparations for the 2023 ECA Canoe Marathon European Championships are underway 24.10.2022

ECA technical delegate for Canoe Marathon Ruud Heijselaar visited Slavonski Brod, Croatia, and evaluated the status of the venue and preparations of the 2023 ECA Canoe Marathon European Championships.

The season 2023 will bring ECA Canoe Marathon European Championships to Croatia for the second time in history. Following the successful organisation in 2018 in the city of Metković, it will be the chance for Slavonski Brod to show their hospitality.

The competition week in an eastern-Croatian city will start on 10th July 2023 with Masters European Cup which will stretch over two competition days. The Senior, U23 and Junior Canoe Marathon European Championships will be held between 13th and 16th July.

“Mr. Ruud Heijselaar came for the technical inspection to see if everything goes according to the plan. Two meetings were held with the representatives of the City council of Slavonski Brod, including with the Mayor Mr. Mirko Duspara, and the second one with the deputy prefect of the County Mr. Marko Šimić. They have expressed great satisfaction that sporting competition of this magnitude will be held in our city. They have promised all the help possible to ensure the best organisation,” said Marko Lipovac, from the Organising committee.

Lipovac added: “We will put a lot of efforts into the organisation, so everyone coming to Slavonski Brod will be happy. Besides the standard European Championships programme, short race will be in the programme and we are considering adding the events for younger categories like in Silkeborg. Mr. Heijselaar was very satisfied after his visit of the venue and pointed out the potential and possibility this could be one of the best organised championships so far. We are looking forward to host this event which will be one of the biggest in the history of our city.”
