Ottilie Robinson Shaw Essex Young Sports personality of the year 18.12.2018

Ottilie Robinson Shaw, the 2018 Junior Canoe Freestyle European Champion, was among the winners of the Active Essex Sports awards. At a ceremony that was held at Chelmsford City Racecourse she received an award for the Essex Young Sports personality of the year.

16-year-old Ottilie Robinson Shaw, who started paddling at the age of 11, has been among the best canoe freestylers for some time now despite her youth. She had a medal at Junior European Championships two years ago in Plattling being the youngest finalist there, last year she won the Junior World Champion title in Argentina and enriched her medal collection this year in Bratislava with Junior European Champion title. In final she received 500,00 points to win the gold medal ahead of Isabelle Voelkel from Germany and Silvia Gallego Munoz from Spain. She also picked up two wins at this year’s World Cups in junior category.

“Ottilie started kayaking at the age of 11 and last year won the junior gold at her first attempt at the Freestyle Kayak World Championships in Argentina. During her time there, she volunteered and visit local schools, encouraging more young people to take up the sport,” reported the Clacton Gazette.

This may not be the only award for her achievements. Otillie reached the final stage of the 2018 World Paddle Awards, being one of the three finalists for the Junior of the year award.
