New date of the 2019 ECA Canoe Polo European Championships announced

New date of the 2019 ECA Canoe Polo European Championships announced 9.11.2018

Portuguese Canoe Federation and European Canoe Association have reached an agreement on a new date for the 2019 ECA Canoe Polo European Championships which will be held in Coimbra. The Championships will be held in the week from 26 August to 1 September 2019.

The first proposed date for next year’s ECA Canoe Polo European Championships in Portugal clashed with the ICF Canoe Sprint and Paracanoe World Championships in Szeged, which will also be the Olympic Qualifying event for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games. To avoid two major canoeing events on the same weekend Portuguese Canoe Federation and European Canoe Association decided to postpone the 2019 ECA Canoe Polo European Championships for one week (26 August -1 September 2019).

The host city of the Canoe Polo European Championships will be Coimbra, home of the oldest Portuguese University. The same city hosted this year’s European Universities Games.

This will be the first Canoe Polo European Championships to be hosted in Portugal, however this European country already organised the 1998 Canoe Polo World Championships in Aveiro.

Last year the ECA Canoe Polo European Championships was held in Saint-Omer, France.

The first bulletin of the 2019 ECA Canoe Polo European Championships in Coimbra is expected to be issued next month.
