Serbian Olympic Committee awarded the best athletes of the year 2017 at a special ceremony held in the Assembly of Serbia in Belgrade. In the best sportsman of the year category Marko Tomičević and Milenko Zorić received an award for their excellent results in the previous year and were named Serbian male athletes of the year.

28-year-old Zorić and a year younger Tomičević won medals both at European and World Championships in 2017. They have won their first World Champion title in Račice, Czech Republic, in men’s K2 1000 metres event, and picked up a silver medal in the same event of the 2017 ECA Canoe Sprint European Championships in Plovdiv, Bulgaria, in July.

“This award that we have received for the first time in very difficult competition means a lot,” said Zorić upon receiving, and Tomičević added, “With the results we had we presumed we will get the award. We are really happy that we made good presentation of our not so known sport. Belgrade will host next European Championships and we want to win gold!”
