Italian Canoe Federation celebrated success of the year 2018 21.3.2019

The season 2018 was another year to remember for the Italian Canoe Federation. They have celebrated success in the past year at a special gala held in Rome, in the Hall of Honour of the Italian Olympic Committee.

Italian representatives won a total of 68 medals – 22 gold, 24 silver and 22 bronze – in the last year. Men’s C4 (Luca Incollingo, Daniele Santini, Nicolae and Sergiu Craciun) picked up historic bronze medal at World Championships in Portugal, while C1 start Carlo Tacchini celebrated senior and U23 European Champion title in 2018. Canoe Slalom paddlers were on the podium in World Cup series with Giovanni De Gennaro winning at the final race in Spain and Stefanie Horn winning a medal earlier in the season in Krakow. Gabriel Esteban Farias and Marius Ciustea excelled in paracanoeing competitions, while in wildwater canoeing young Cecilia Panato (and her sister Alice) dominated women’s canoe race. Very successful were also canoe polo teams, where three Italian teams won a medal at Canoe Polo World Championships.

“It was a season full of successes, achieved with great determination and sacrifice. Our athletes are growing a lot, they are making important progress and achieving great results that make us look to the future with optimism. With our national teams we have been present in all the main international events finding ourselves at the top in all disciplines,” said Luciano Buonfiglio, President of the Italian Canoe Kayak Federation, on this occasion.
