Hungary and Slovakia conclude 200 metres events in Győr with four medals each

After four days of great racing the canoe sprint part of the European Youth Olympic Festival (EYOF) in Győr, Hungary, concluded with 200 metres finals in eight events. Host nation – Hungary – celebrated four medals today - two gold, one silver and one bronze. Slovakia too finished the day with a total of four medals - one gold, one silver and two bronze. 


Hungarian fans started to celebrate a success already in the first final A of the day. Kristof Domonkos Keresztes produced the fastest time in men’s K1 200 metres final. He was 0.010 seconds faster than Russian paddler Nikita Byzov who finished second, while Martin Hvojnik from Slovakia picked up bronze medal.
 
Nikita Byzov and Martin Hvojnik won medals in men’s K2 200 metres event too. Russian representative Byzov won gold medal together with Dmitrii Morgunov and Martin Hvojnik finished third with his Slovakian team mate Richard Nemeth. Latvian K2 Edvards Ceipe – Nauris Tomsons finished the race in between, in a silver medal position.
 
The second gold medal of the day for Hungarian team was won by Eszter Rendessy who was unbeatable in women’s K1 final. She was almost a second faster than Irene Bellan from Italy and more than a second and a half faster than third placed Enya Dale from Great Britain.
 
Manuel Fontan Senorans (ESP) won his second gold medal in C1M event. He was the fastest both in 500 and 200 metres event. Benedek Horvath (HUN) also won his second silver medal in men’s C1 race, while Gia Gabedava (GEO) finished third in the 200 metres final.
 
In women’s C1 200 metres event Russian canoeist Anastasiia Vazhinaskaia celebrated a win ahead of silver and gold medallists from the 500 metres final. Lucia Valova (SVK) won her second silver in C1W event in Győr, while Csenge Molnar added bronze medal from today’s 200 metres final to her gold from the 500 metres event.
 
Lucrezia Zironi and Irene Bellan (ITA) celebrated gold medal in women’s K2 event. German duo Vanessa Yvonne Bülow – Svenja Larissa Hardy, who was the fastest in 500 metres event, won silver medal today and Katerina Zarubova - Adela Hazova (CZE) won their second bronze medal in K2W category in EYOF this week.
 
Lucia Valova – Eduard Strycek won the only gold medal of the day for Slovakia in C2 mix final. Yuliana Putnina and Lev Kirpik (UKR) finished second, while Anastasiya Zhuk and Uladzislau Shakhnitski (BLR) finished the race in third place.
 
In the last final of the EYOF canoe sprint competition – K4 mix event – Germany celebrated a gold medal with the same crew who was unbeatable also in the 500 metres event. Vanessa Yvonne Bülow, Svenja Larissa Hardy, Moritz Willi Florstedt and Elias Miguel Kurth crossed the finish line head of Italian (Lucrezia Zironi, Alberto Moceo, Luca Ghelardini, Irene Bellan) and British (Enya Dale, Zoe Clark, Edward Nightingale, Alexander Greaves) crews.
