Hungarian Canoeing mourns the death of an excellent coach 18.12.2021

Hungarian Canoeing mourns the death of an excellent coach Nandor Sari, who passed away at the age of 64.

Following his sporting career as an athlete he continued his professional path as a coach. Many Olympic, World and European Champions were under his wing, among them Katalin Kovacs, Natasa Janics, Gabriella Szabo and Gabor Kucsera. However, his greatest success came with men's K4 1000 metres crew. Zoltan Kammerer, Botond Storcz, Akos Vereckei and Gabor Horvath won an Olympic gold medal in 2000, and then four years later defended the K4 1000 meters title.

“As a competitor I spent most of my time with him, he was my coach for almost 15 years, we were together for better or worse.    I joined him at the age of twenty, I became a top racer with him, I achieved my greatest success with him, I will be grateful to him forever. Already twenty years ago, he said he would not live to his 65th birthday because his father, uncle, grandfather and several other family members had died early. It is scary that he was right,” said Zoltan Kammerer, the three-time Olympic champion.

We would like to express our sincere condolences to his family and friends. Rest in peace.
