European canoeing season 2024 brings lots of excitement

European canoeing season 2024 brings lots of excitement 3.11.2023

The canoeing season 2023 is coming slowly to an end, all the competitions under the ECA auspices for the year have concluded in October. The next year promises to be again full of excitement.

The 2024 season of ECA European Championships will kick off in April, when Portugal, more precisely Azores Islands will host the 2024 ECA Ocean Racing European Championships. The competition will take place between 10th and 13th April 2024.

In May, Ljubljana – Tacen will host the senior ECA Canoe Slalom European Championships for the third time in history. The first time, the senior Canoe Slalom European Championships in Slovenia was organised in 2005 and the second time in 2017. The well-known canoe slalom venue was hit by the floods this summer and fall, which caused damages that are counted in hundreds of thousands of Euros, but the organisers promise they will do everything in their power to deliver another excellent sporting event. The championships is scheduled for 15-19 May.

June will be dedicated to Canoe Sprint European Championships. First, seniors will fight for the canoe sprint European Champion titles alongside paracanoeists and SUP athletes at combined European Championships. The 2024 ECA Canoe Sprint, Paracanoe and SUP European Championships will be organised between 13th and 16th June in Szeged, Hungary. One the most prominent canoe sprint venues in the world so far hosted Senior Canoe Sprint European Championships only once, back in 2002, but they have organised many World Cup races as well as four World Championships.

Junior and U23 canoe sprinters will fight for the medals at the European Championships at the end of June. The 2024 ECA Junior and U23 Canoe Sprint European Championships will be organised between 27th and 30th June in Bratislava, Slovakia, at the venue which will make a debut organisation of canoe sprint competition on this international scale.

Already in the following week, between 3rd and 6th July, young wildwater canoeing athletes will be in the spotlight. Junior and U23 paddlers will compete at the 2024 ECA Junior and U23 Wildwater Canoeing European Championships in Dallenwil, Switzerland.

The end of July will be dedicated to Canoe Marathon European Championships which will be organised between 25th and 28th July. The championships will take place in Poznan for the first time; however, Poland already hosted the ECA Canoe Marathon European Championships in four previous occasions: in 1999 Gorzow, in 2003 in Gdansk and in 2009 in Ostroda.

Poland will also be the organiser of the 2024 ECA Junior and U23 Canoe Slalom European Championships which will take young athletes to Krakow. The venue does not need a special introduction, as it is one of the most recurrent organisers of canoe slalom competitions in the world. In 2023, Krakow hosted the European Games as well as Junior and U23 Canoe Slalom World Championships, and they have rich experience also in organisation of senior European Championships and World Cup races.

For now, the organiser of the 2024 ECA Canoe Freestyle European Championships remains unknown since the organisers from Salt, Spain, withdrew from the organisation of this competition that was entrusted to them.
