ECA president Albert Woods OBE member of the European Games 2023 Coordination Commission

ECA president Albert Woods OBE member of the European Games 2023 Coordination Commission 6.2.2023

There is less than half a year left until the beginning of the third European Games, which will be celebrated in Krakow-Malopolska this year. European Canoe Association’s president Albert Woods OBE is in the coordination commission of the Games as one of only five members of the commission, coming from the European sports federations.

It is a great honour for the European Canoe Association to have Mr. Albert Woods OBE included in the European Games 2023 Coordination Commission. Besides representatives of EOC and presidents of several European Olympic Committees, only five presidents of the European sports federations are members of this commission.

Besides Albert Woods OBE, as president of the European Canoe Association, commission includes European Athletics President Dobromir Karamarinov, Union Cycliste Européenne (UEC) President Enrico Della Casa, Ligue Européenne de Natation (LEN) President António José Silva (POR) and Octavian Morariu, President of Rugby Europe.

The Commission is led by EOC Executive Committee (ExCo) Member Hasan Arat, with fellow ExCo member and Croatian Olympic Committee President Zlatko Mateša, and former EOC Vice President Niels Nygaard both serving as Vice Chairs. There are 13 presidents of National Olympic Committees also included in the commission, including IOC Member and Ukrainian Olympic Committee President Sergii Bubka, as well as athlete representatives EOC Athletes’ Commission Chair Gerd Kanter and IOC Athletes’ Commission member and Polish two-time Olympic silver medallist Maja Martyna Włoszczowska.

EOC President Spyros Capralos said, “Each member on the Commission brings their own expertise and experiences, meaning we have a well-balanced group that will help the EOC and the local organising committee deliver a spectacular third edition of Europe’s premier sport event.”

The European Games 2023 Krakow-Malopolska will be held between 21 June and 2 July and will include Canoe Sprint for the third time in the European Games sports programme as well as debut of Canoe Slalom at the European Games.
