ECA confirms new dates for European Championships

ECA confirms new dates for European Championships 1.7.2020

ECA's board of directors confirmed new dates for majority of this year’s scheduled European Championships.

Due to Covid-19 pandemic all ECA’s European Championships in 2020 have been either cancelled or postponed. Organisers and ECA now tried to find solutions and new dates for European Championships from September on if the circumstances will allow the organisation of sporting events.

Senior Canoe Slalom European Championships which was scheduled for May in London was cancelled, and now Czech Canoe Union offered to organise the championships in September instead of the British organisers. ECA’s board of directors accepted the offer and awarded the championships to the Czech federation. The 2020 ECA Canoe Slalom European Championships is now scheduled to be held between 18 and 20 September in Prague.

Senior Canoe Sprint and Paracanoe European Championships in Bascov, Romania, has been postponed to 15 – 18 October 2020.

Junior and U23 Canoe Slalom European Championships is supposed to be held between 1 and 4 October in Krakow, Poland, while the 2020 ECA Junior and U23 Canoe Sprint European Championships in Moscow still has not been confirmed. ECA and organisers are finding solutions and possible date as well as monitoring the situation in Russia to see if the championships can go forward. More information on final cancellation or postponement is expected by the end of the week.

Junior and U23 Wildwater Canoeing European Championships in Solkan, Slovenia, has been postponed to 4 – 7 November and 2020 ECA Canoe Marathon European Championships in Budapest is expected to take place between 1 and 4 October.

ECA Ocean Racing and ECA Canoe Freestyle European Championships have both been postponed to 2021.

However, considering the Covid-19 situation ECA and organisers reserve the right to cancel the championships. All decisions about the organisation of the European Championships are subject to the actual health situation in Europe and recommendations of the World Health Organisation and the Host Country Government. The ECA will continuously monitor actual situation, opening of the borders and react promptly in coordination with the Organising Committee.

Sixty (60) days before the Championships, the ECA and the OC will analyse whether the borders of the Countries whose teams have participated in the ECA Championship in recent years are open and decide whether it can be an official European Championships.

Besides ECA European Championships some other competitions that have been postponed have also been included in the updated ECA calendar.

ECA Canoe Polo Club European Championships will be organised in Saint-Omer, France, on 3rd and 4th October 2020.

ECA European Open Senior Canoe Slalom Cup is expected to have two races this year. The first venue is Ljubljana – Tacen (15-16 August) and the second Bratislava (5-6 September).

Olympic Hopes in canoe sprint are scheduled for 8 – 20 September in Szeged, while Olympic Hopes in canoe slalom will take place between 24 and 25 October in Krakow.

ECA senior and junior wildwater sprint canoeing European Cups are supposed to be organised in Česke Budejovice (8-9 August), Skopje (19-20 September), Banja Luka (26-27 September) and Kolpa River (3 October).

ECA Junior Canoe Slalom European Cup races will be held in Solkan (25-26 July), Flattach (1-2 August), Veltrusy (8-9 August), Roudnice (15-16 August) and Krakow (5-6 September).
