Croatian canoeing mourns the death of federation's president Marko Ćurković 1.4.2024

Croatian canoeing mourns the death of Marko Ćurković, president of the Croatian Canoe Federation who passed away after short and serious illness.


Marko Ćurković, who was born in 1946, cultivated a love for sports for his entire life. He actively played tennis and dedicated numerous hours to canoeing. He held the position of the president of the Croatian Canoe Federation until his untimely death. He was elected to the position of the president of Croatian Canoe Federation in the year 2000, and was in position until today, with a break period from 2007 to 2012. In this period he decided to accept the offered position of the assistant to the Secretary General of the Croatian Olympic Committee for national sports federations. He remained in this position until his retirement in 2012. After that he returned to Croatian Canoe Federation as its president.
 
In the mandate period 2000 – 2004 Marko Ćurković was also a volunteer member of the Council of the umbrella sports organisation. He was versatile and in addition to the work tasks he performed, he excelled in activities in other areas as well.
 
Tranquil as a man, he was loved in all the environments where he appeared. He was known and appreciated both in Croatia and throughout Europe and World in canoeing family, where he participated as a representative in the Assembly of the International Canoe Federation and European Canoe Association.
 
“Croatian sport has lost a great enthusiast, a friend who made an immeasurable contribution to the development of canoeing and will remain in our hearts as a great man and a dear friend,” Croatian Canoe Federation wrote in its In Memoriam.
 
We would like to express sincere condolences to his family and friends. Marko, rest in peace.
