Beata Mikolajczyk Rosolska is coming back

Beata Mikolajczyk Rosolska is coming back 19.4.2019

Beata Mikolajczyk Rosolska, 33-year-old Polish sprint canoer, gave birth to her son Szymon earlier this year now returned to the boat with a wish to compete again.

Beata Mikolajczyk Rosolska had much success in her sporting career winning three Olympic medals (Beijing, London and Rio), six medals at World Championships, medal at European Games in Baku and eighteen medals at senior European Championships.

In January she and her husband Rafal Rosolski, who is also sprint canoer, welcomed their son Szymon. “Pregnancy is not a disease, it was not in my case, and I felt very good all the time.  Four weeks after the birth I went to the club marina and took my training kayak from the hangar. Gliding on the water in a beautiful day, the sun, made me very happy. I thought that maybe it's worth fighting for a return to the team, so that after years I do not have to regret that I did not try it,” she said in an interview for Polish media.

Since she and her husband are kayakers, this means sacrifices need to be made. “Well, before I got the ‘green light’ from the doctor, I talked to my parents. They supported my return to canoeing, they provided help. As I breastfeed, I took milk and stored it in the fridge before training, and Szymon is in the care of his grandma at the time.”

“Due to the fact that I have a ‘house without foundations’, i.e. without winter preparation, I do not assume any specific goal. I will slowly implement the training regime and see how my body reacts. I do not put pressure on myself that I have to. I am definitely not going to take part in the spring qualifying races, most likely in the Polish championships. Whether I am ready to compete for a place in Tokyo, I will see it probably next season. I know that I have to implement a training regime. Szymon is the most important and I cannot imagine traveling without him. I count on the support of the federation and the ministry in this case. If my teammates, with whom I still have close contact, will turn out to be better than me, I would like to warmly congratulate them and keep my fingers crossed for them. Everything will be decided simply by the position and time set on the race course,” said Beata.
