A New Chapter in Canoe Slalom History Will Be Written Tomorrow

The European Youth Olympic Festival is already in full swing. Tomorrow, however, will be a particularly special day in Skopje, North Macedonia. For the first time in EYOF history, canoe slalom will be part of the sports programme.

The 18th European Youth Olympic Festival has already been officially opened in Skopje, and for the first time ever, canoe slalom is included in the competition schedule. Young slalom paddlers will be in action this Thursday in the Matka Canyon.

In the past, canoe sprint has featured at the Summer European Youth Olympic Festival, but this time, slalom paddlers will also get their chance to shine. In North Macedonia, 61 athletes will compete in four canoe slalom events.

The entire canoe slalom competition will take place on Thursday. On the Treska River, kayakers and canoeists will first face the heats, followed by the finals in the afternoon. The top 12 athletes from each event will qualify for the finals. Heats will begin at 10:00 with men's and women's kayak, followed by men's and women's canoe. The final runs and medal races will start at 14:00.

Athletes from Andorra, Austria, Croatia, Czechia, Spain, Finland, France, Great Britain, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, North Macedonia, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Switzerland, Turkiye and Ukraine will be competing for the medals.
