Ramón Ferro, the most successful Spanish canoe marathon paddler in history, decided to end his sporting career. In 15 years among the best World’s canoe marathon paddlers he won over 20 medals at European and World Championships in C2 events.

Several medals for European canoe marathon paddlers in China

China, which will host the 2019 Canoe Marathon World Championships, has organised final Canoe Marathon World Cup events of the season. Athletes from 24 countries and five continents took part in the competitions which were in Shanghai and Shaoxing. European paddlers did well in the Far East.

Hungary remains the strongest canoe marathon nation after World Championships in South Africa

South African city of Pietermaritzburg hosted the 25th edition of the Canoe Marathon World Championships. This was the second time this country hosted canoe marathon world championships after Cape Town welcomed World’s best back in 1998. Hungary once again showed they have the best marathon paddlers. Hungarian representatives won at least a medal in each of the 17 World Championships events. Besides Hungary other European teams - Great Britain, Spain, Portugal, Poland, Ukraine, Czech Republic and Ireland - also won medals at this World Championships.

The last medals of Canoe Marathon European Championships to Hungary and Spain

The 2017 ECA Canoe Marathon European Championships in Ponte de Lima concluded with another round of fantastic racing and celebration of Hungarian and Spanish crews. Renata Csay and Alexandra Barra picked up gold medal in women’s K2 event, Adrian Boros and Laszlo Solti in men’s K2, while Antonio Campos and Jose Sanchez won European Champion title in men’s C2 event.
