Big names tested their form in La Seu d'Urgell 16.4.2019

La Seu d’Urgell will host the most important canoe slalom competition of the year 2019. World Championships and Olympic Qualifiers will be held in Spain in the end of September and many athletes took the opportunity to train and compete on the course at the second race in the Pyrenees Cup race series.


After the last week’s win in Pau at the first race of the Pyrenees Cup, Spanish canoeist Ander Elosegi again jumped to the highest podium position. He won 2.10 seconds ahead of Polish paddler Grzegorz Hedwig, who actually picked up two penalty seconds in his final run. Last year’s Junior European Champion in K1 and C1 Miquel Trave occupied the third position.
 
Camille Prigent from France won in women’s kayak final. She was 0.30 seconds faster than Olympic Champion from Spain Maialen Chourraut. Marta Kharitonova from Russia was third, 0.71 seconds behing, but she had a touch in her final run.
 
 
 
Multiple medallist at World and European Championships and also 2016 Olympic Games bronze medallist Jiri Prskavec from Czech Republic produced the best run in men’s kayak final. Lucien Delfour from Australia finished the race in second position and French paddler Mathurin Madore was third.
 
There were no surprises in women’s canoe event. Australian Jessica Fox had the best run of all on the start of the final race. Despite having a touch she was still almost three seconds faster than Austrian canoeist Viktoria Wolffhardt, while Lucie Baudu from France finished the race in third place.
