15/01/2017 - Spanish-Slovenian duo Federico Vega – Jošt Zakrajšek is the winner of the 41st edition of the world famous Rio Negro canoe marathon race in Argentina. Other European paddlers, competing in Argentina, too, finished the race in the top ten. Hungarian Canoe Marathon paddler Adrian Boros who paddled together with Argentinean Gonzalo Carreras was third in the final standings, while Serbian Krisztina Bedecs finished sixth in the overall standings together with Julian Algañaraz in a K2 mix boat. They were however unbeatable in the K2 mix category.

13/01/2017 - The big success of the British Canoe Sprint, Canoe Slalom and Paracanoe athletes at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro has not been unnoticed. Five paddlers - Joe Clarke, Liam Heath, Jeanette Chippington, Emma Wiggs and Anne Dickins - have been included in the Queen’s New Year Honours list as well as Esther Mathews who has been awarded a British Empire Medal (BEM) for services to canoeing.

12/01/2017 - Canoe Federation of Serbia celebrated the successful year 2016 at their traditional ‘Canoeing Day’ in Belgrade. They have not only celebrated the medals won in the season 2016, but also awarded the best athletes of the season and presented the ambitious plans for the next season. Among other major events ahead of the Serbian paddlers is also the 2017 ECA Junior and U23 Canoe Sprint European Championships in front of their home crowd in Belgrade.

11/01/2017 - Czech Canoe Union awarded the best athletes of the previous season. Two Olympic medals from the Games in Rio de Janeiro brought Josef Dostál an award for the best athlete of the year. Jiří Prskavec, Olympic medallist too, who already received an award last November for the best Wild water paddler in Czech Republic, finished second in the poll, and Vítězslav Gebas was third. The best team of the year was – unsurprisingly – men’s K4 (Daniel Havel, Lukáš Trefil, Josef Dostál, Jan Štěrba) who also won a medal in Brazil.

10/01/2017 – One of the most successful sprint canoeists Marta Walczykiewicz received an award for the sporting achievements in the past season. At the 82nd edition of the Sportsperson of the Year 2016 in Poland she finished in tenth place. Marta Walczykiewicz was nominated for the award five times already, yet this is her first top ten position of the most prestigious sports awards in Poland so far.The 2016 Olympic silver medallist of the women’s K1 200 metres final expressed gratitude to everyone who contributed to her success and also said, “In sport, one of the most important characteristics is patience. I have waited twenty years for an Olympic medal, six years for this award.”
