Welcome

The European Canoe Association was founded in Rome ITA in December 1993. The ECA was set up for the first year to write the Statutes and then at the second ECA Congress in Teesside GBR in April 1995 the Board Members were elected for a four-year period. The International Canoe Federation recognised the formation of the ECA and other Continental Associations at the ICF Congress in Acapulco MEX in 1994. Since then the ECA has grown from strength to strength and European Championships have been held in nearly all the disciplines. The ECA has more than 35 European National Federations as members and is the strongest Continental Association. We have started the concept of European Club Championships and we wish to make it grow to all the canoeing disciplines. We believe that these Club Championships are a great way forward for the growth of our sport in many Federations. There is a tremendous amount of work still to be done concerning our sport and its connections to the Environment. Our sport and the environment work hand in glove because Canoeing is one of the most environmentally friendly sports. Many European bodies are seeking to control the environment and we have to work closely with these people to maintain our sport's access to our rivers lakes and coastal waters of Europe. We would welcome all lovers and protectors of the Environment into our great sport so that they too can see and enjoy our close connection to nature. My best Sports greetings |
